One of the hardest things about being a self-employed freelancer is the fact that you don’t have consistent income. This fluctuation of money often brings a sense of fear, since you don’t know what to expect, or how to budget.
Subsequently we tend to take on gigs and jobs that we aren’t excited about, just to pay the bills. Well not anymore!
After doing an experiment for the past few months, I’ve embraced the Mike Michalowicz mindset of growing a colossal pumpkin. In order to do that though, I’ve had to drop almost all my clients.
I currently only work with 3 regular clients, and a handful of freelance writing gigs. However, I’m making more money than I have ever.
Being picky with my work has made me happier, less stressed and brought in more income.
Who would have thought?!

1. Featured in Top 50 Best Blogs by Women
Careful Cents was named one of the top 50 best blogs by women by The Work at Home Woman!
I had the pleasure of writing a guest post for Holly earlier this year, so I’m thrilled to be included for 2013 (in the money/finance section too).
2. Fight For Your Right to Work Less
After 6 months of walking out the door from quitting my job, I FINALLY have control over my schedule. It’s been a crazy time since I moved to Denver and back to Texas, but now I’m home for awhile and have gotten into a really good work groove.
Because of this, I’ve been able to work on a new project! It’s a four week course all about productivity and designing a freedom business.
And I just privately opened it up for a VIP launch to beta members of the Careful Cents community. It will launch to the public in January 2014, so I’ll be sharing more details then.
3. Tripled My Traffic
In case you missed it, I had the awesome pleasure of meeting Derek Halpern at FinCon a few weeks ago. I shared my story of how his advice tripled my traffic over the past year.
He then asked to feature my success story in his keynote presentation! I was thrilled! Beyond that though, it was a really good experience on how being confident and genuine can bring your business recognition.
