3 Simple Strategies to Breathe Life Into Your Freelance Career

Are the excitement feelings of starting a freelance career wearing off? Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed or frustrated?

Did you read someone’s success story and envy what they have, but can’t seem to get any traction generating income, or finding enough time?

I know the feeling!

When I first decided to quit my job, I had major issues with getting my blogging career off the ground. I didn’t know if I wanted to be a writer, editor, social media specialist or community builder.

I got tired of taking on too much and trying too many things. Sometimes what we really need is simplicity — and focus. I found three small actions you can take to put a little extra punch into your freelance business.

1. Create a Daily List of “At Least” Goals

Small actions are the stepping stones to creating a big difference — even if you’re only taking ONE small step at a time. My coach calls this an “at least” goal.

No matter what your schedule looks like, it should contain a small task that you complete for yourself — not your clients, your spouse or your boss.

It could be as simple as spending 15 minutes planning out your next ebook or course, or blocking out 30 minutes to create a business budget. Then at the end of the day, you can say that you “at least crossed one thing off the list”.

Start by creating a daily list of “at least” goals and pick just ONE to check off the list each day. These simple actions will drastically change your freelance business!

2. Don’t Be a Copycat

Nobody wants to hear someone else’s opinion recycled over and over. You need to stand in your awesomeness and be proud of who you are as a freelancer.

No one has a story like yours, and no one can tell your story like you can. I use Grammarly’s plagiarism checker, because our own point of view is uniquely funny, quirky and entertaining.

There are a lot of bloggers and entrepreneurs who are quitting their jobs to freelance full-time but no one’s situation is like yours. Cat Alford, who’s sharing her journey to be a full-time blogger in 6 months, has her own point of view.

Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else. — Judy Garland

3. Review Your Accomplishments Weekly

With all the negativity in the media, the constant chores and to-do lists staring you in the face, it’s easy to forget your accomplishments. The stuff you get done gets drowned out by the things you don’t get done.

At the end of each week I sit down and write out five things that I achieved that past week. They can be small things, like buying and setting up a new printer (hey, technology takes skill), or big things, like taking a nap on two different days.

Recording my accomplishments for the week!

This has become my favorite time of the week, and it reminds me that no matter what I didn’t get to that week, I was still able to accomplish something. And that positive attitude keeps me motivated and moving forward!

If you’re struggling with your freelance career, try using one of these ideas to breath a little life back into your business. It could be the punch of energy you’re searching for!
